MLB   (979) HOUSTON ASTROS VS (980) ST. LOUIS CARDINALS

Take: (979) HOUSTON ASTROS

The Houston Astros (7–9) and St. Louis Cardinals (8–8) continue their three-game interleague series on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, at Busch Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 7:45 PM ET. The matchup features two teams trying to build momentum early in the season, with both hovering around the .500 mark.

The Astros will send right-hander Hunter Brown (1–1, 2.00 ERA) to the mound. Brown has been excellent through his first three starts, allowing just four earned runs over 18 innings. He’s struck out 22 batters while maintaining a 0.78 WHIP. In his most recent outing, he shut down the Seattle Mariners across six scoreless innings, giving up only two hits.

The Cardinals will counter with right-hander Erick Fedde (1–1, 4.20 ERA). Fedde has delivered some quality innings this season, including a standout performance with six hitless innings against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Still, control has been an issue, as he’s issued four walks in each of his last two outings. His ability to limit traffic on the basepaths will be key against a Houston lineup that can explode at any moment.

Houston comes into this game trying to bounce back after falling 8–3 in the series opener. Offensively, the Astros have been inconsistent, averaging just 4.0 runs per game with a team batting average of .219. Jeremy Peña provided a late highlight in Monday’s game with a three-run homer in the ninth inning, but the Astros will need more early production to support Brown.

The Cardinals, on the other hand, are riding a two-game winning streak and enjoying contributions up and down the lineup. Nolan Arenado led the charge in the series opener, going 3-for-4 with a home run and two doubles. Brendan Donovan also stayed hot, going 4-for-4 and extending his hitting streak to 10 games. St. Louis will aim to keep the momentum going in front of the home crowd.

Both teams looking to get above that .500 line and stay there.
